Frequently Asked Safety Questions

How often will my boiler be serviced?

A heating engineer will service gas and solid fuel heating appliances once every year. This includes sweeping the flue of solid fuel heating appliances. (You will need to arrange to have the flue swept at least once more during the year).  It is vitally important for the engineer to gain access to your home to service the appliance for your own health and safety.

What should I do
if I think my gas appliance is faulty?

Your safety is of paramount importance to us, equipment that is not working properly can be dangerous.  If you are worried about yours, don't use it.

How do I use my solid fuel heating appliance safely?

When using a solid fuel heating appliance for the first time check that the chimney flue has not been obstructed and that the chimney has been swept.  If you are a new tenant Rykneld Homes will have already made these checks when the house was empty.  For advice and tips on your solid fuel appliance click here.

What happens if an appliance fails the safety check?

The Landlords Gas Safety Record will contain details of any remedial action taken at the time by our engineer. It is an offence to use or allow the use of a gas appliance you know to be unsafe. Do not reconnect any appliance that you have been told is unsafe, or which has either been isolated or disconnected for safety reasons.
