At some time, you may experience problems in paying your rent.  If you do experience difficulty paying your rent, you must contact one of our Customer Finance Champions. Click here to find details of your Finance Champion.

The Customer Finance Champions will:

• Offer you a private interview either in your home or at an Area Housing Office
• Check that you are claiming the housing benefit you are entitled to and assist you in completing the forms
• Work out a weekly budget for you to help you manage your finances
• Work out a repayment plan with you to help you to pay back the money you owe
• Put you in touch with other organisations who may be able to help

If you do not pay your rent or make an agreement to clear any arrears, the Council will seriously consider serving a legal Notice to seek possession of your home. If the arrears are not cleared the Council can apply to the County Court for your eviction. If this action is taken you will be responsible for the Court costs. If you are evicted for rent arrears, we do not have a duty to house you.

If you prefer to speak to someone other than Rykneld Homes about your financial problems, you can obtain independent debt management advice from the Citizens Advice Bureau.  This organisation offers help and advice on a wide range of matters, including debt counselling.
