
You will need to apply for permission to Rykneld Homes in writing if you want to carry out alterations to your property. For example, these include replacing your kitchen or bathroom, or adding electrical sockets.
Some alterations may even need Planning Permission and Building Regulations Approval which you would be responsible for arrange and paying for. For more details, contact your Neighbourhood Champion.
Wall and ceiling finishes
The finishes below are not to be used in Council Properties (see Repairs section):
- Artex or similar textured coating
- Plaster with a textured finish
- Polystyrene tiles
- Timber of plywood boarding
These and similar finishes are considered to be alterations or improvements, for which the regulations and conditions of tenancy state that you need permission in writing from Rykneld Homes before proceeding. You would not normally be granted permission for the above finishes. If these finishes were to be applied without permission, we would be entitled to charge you with any costs we incur in removing these finishes. The cost to reinstate a smooth plaster finish can be very high.
