Community clean up in Eckington
18/3/10

Parts of Eckington received an early spring clean when residents joined forces to give the town a tidy up.

The event was organised by Woodview Residents Group in Eckington and 13 volunteers collected over 20 bags of rubbish targeting play areas, footpaths, garage sites and hedge bottoms in the Woodview/Pitt Street areas.

The litter-pick was supported by Rykneld Homes who provided the equipment and Eckington Parish Council who organised disposal of the rubbish.  The group is now offering help to other organisations with environmental projects within the parish.

Jessica Popplewell from Rykneld Homes, said: "Thanks to all the volunteers who supported this event and to Eckington Parish Council for their help.  At Rykneld Homes, we are keen to help communities keep their neighbourhoods clean and tidy and would look forward to hearing from other volunteers who would like to do something similar".

A further litter-pick is planned for Saturday 27 March in the Birkhill area.  If anyone is interested in helping out please contact Jessica Popplewell, Youth Involvement Champion, Rykneld Homes, Tel: 01246 217295 Email: jessica.popplewell@rykneldhomes.org.uk.
