National Volunteer Week takes place 1-7 June every year and is an opportunity to celebrate volunteering in all its diversity.
At Rykneld Homes we have supported volunteers to enhance their employability and gain the confidence and skills to move from unemployment into the workplace.
Our volunteer program has seen another successful year this year and we believe that helping people into work also has a larger impact on the wider community and North East Derbyshire as a whole.
Kim, a volunteer at Rykneld Homes who then went on to find full time employment with us said, "I really enjoyed the voluntary role. It has lead to employment which has had a big impact on my life, both financially and mentally - I just love it."
We advertise our volunteer opportunities on our website as well as through the Job Centre Plus who promote positions when they become available.
Whilst completing placements, volunteers undertake a mock interview, which helps with gaining the confidence and skills required to interview successfully. They also receive training on writing job applications and are helped to update or write a CV.
Volunteers at Rykneld Homes are eligible to apply for any internal job roles that are advertised. Two of the volunteers who completed placements with Rykneld Homes this year were successful in gaining permanent roles within the organisation.
This supports Rykneld Homes’ mission of making people a priority and helps increase the wellbeing of the wider population of North East Derbyshire.
