To raise awareness and much needed funds to continue providing services for the homeless people of Derby, the 'Rykneld All Stars' slept under the stars at the Annual Padley Sleep Out in November 2018.
Padley is a diverse organisation providing a broad range of services to the most vulnerable people in the community, this particular event raises funds and brings awareness to help those who regularly have no choice but to sleep outdoors.
The event took place at Derby Cathedral on Friday 2nd November 2018, with the Rykneld All Stars sleeping outdoors all night from 7pm until 7am the next morning.
Some of our young Community Improvers also took part and helped towards raise funds and awareness.
Community Involvement Officer Helen said, "We slept right underneath the cathedral which chimed every half an hour! We had live music and entertainment in the evening but after that we were left under the stars to sleep outdoors for the night. The weather was quite kind to us and only rained for around 20 minutes, we only had sleeping bags to cover ourselves with and we slept on pieces of cardboard.
"This event really helps towards highlighting and combating the issue of homelessness and we raised much needed funds towards that. In total around £8,000 was raised this year which is fantastic!
"This is an experience that the team and the Community Improvers will never forget and one which will draw to the attention the plight of those who spend many nights like this, but without the hot drinks and toilet facilities."
