In order to help our young Community Improvers work towards achieving their Duke of Edinburgh awards our Community Involvement Team have become qualified Duke of Edinburgh Expedition Leaders.
After completing the expedition leader training we took our Community Improvers on an expedition around Ashover where we let them plan a walking route using their mapping skills. This meant that the Community Improvers would be using new skills including route planning, grid referencing, plotting a direction and time, as well as finding landmarks on the map to ensure they were going in the right direction.
Community Involvement Officer Jason Sadler said, "The planned route was a circular expedition around Ashover. We completed it successfully without losing direction which shows great skill and knowledge from our young Community Improvers.
"This is useful training that will build their fitness and skillsets so that the Community Improvers are ready to achieve their Duke of Edinburgh awards."
We are recruiting to our young Community Improvers so if you would like to join and learn new skills why not have a chat with our Community Involvement Team on 01246 217670 or visit our Community Involvement section of the website.
