Rykneld Homes has recently taken on a volunteer for an 8 week placement working with our Customer Services Team. We asked Mel, from North Wingfield what she thought of the experience.
What have your day-to-day tasks involved here at Rykneld Homes?
"I’ve done lots whilst I’ve been here! Collecting, recording, and distributing the post around the building and to customers, answering internal and external calls, file management, working on Microsoft Excel spreadsheets, and dealing with customers face to face on the reception desk and at the Area Housing Offices."
Have you learnt any new skills here that will benefit you in future?
"I have never worked in an office environment so I have learnt a lot more admin tasks such as spreadsheets, filing, and recording incoming and outgoing post. I have also never worked with such a big team and in an organisation with this many people in the building which has been really good."
What do you think about Rykneld Homes offering these volunteer opportunities?
"I think it’s great that Rykneld offer this as not many places would do the same. They have supported me to update my CV and I have also done mock interviews to help me gain interview skills which I then received feedback for. I feel prepared for future interviews now."
Have you enjoyed your placement here and would you recommend it to others?
"I have really enjoyed it here. The Customer Services Team have been such a nice team to work with and everyone in the organisation has been very welcoming. I would definitely recommend this to others because it’s a good opportunity to learn new skills. It has brought my confidence and independence back!"
