Mr Marriott contacted his Housing and Support Officer Joanne Ball and requested an appointment with her to find out if he could move house to somewhere more suitable for his needs.
Mr Marriott does not drive and the bus route and shops were far away from where he was living so it was quite a long walk for him. Housing and Support Officer Joanne Ball helped him fill out an application form and he was given a higher banding on our Housing Register due to his requirements.
Joanne then liaised with our Choice Move Allocations Officer Michaela Connell to find out if we were advertising any suitable properties. Michaela advised that we had a property available on first come first serve basis at Marx Court in Clay Cross where the customer would be close to shops and bus routes as well as surrounded by people of a similar age who regularly meet up in the communal area at Marx Court to take part in activities such as kurling and bingo.
Mr Marriott was shown around the property and he loved it so much that he accepted it there and then. We visited Mr Marriott to find out what he thinks about living in Marx Court, “I’m a lot better off now, the shops are very close by, the bus routes are across the road, and there’s a chippy just around the corner! In my old property everything was too far away for me so this is brilliant.
“I think the facilities here are really good, I visit the communal room fairly often where everyone can get together and it’s really nice, we play games like bingo and I enjoy dominos as well. I’m feeling a lot better now that I’m here and I’m a lot more settled down and sleeping a lot better as a result.
“Joanne and Michaela have been really good and helped me a lot, they deserve medals!”
