The Stonebroom Youth Club were nominated for their contribution to the young people of Stonebroom and surrounding villages. Kenneth - who made the nomination - said, "Melanie and Rob do a stirling job for no remuneration, they are a credit to the area. They aren’t frightened of tackling anything and they have encouraged membership to the group which is now thriving. They provide so much help to the community."
For their Community Spirit our Director of Property Services and Development, Niall Clark, awarded Stonebroom Youth Club with £150 in shopping vouchers! Melanie, who runs the Youth Club, said "It is fantastic to be recognised for all the hard voluntary work that goes in to running this club. I don’t do this to receive anything but it is nice for us to be recognised.
"I will put this money towards purchasing new equipment ready for Summer this year so we have lots of activities to do outside.
"These types of community groups give children somewhere to go where they can meet up and socialise with their friends and engage in activities together. We have various activities here such as table tennis, tabletop football, darts, pool, karaoke, and xbox among others. In the Summer when the weather is nicer we run outdoor activities such as sports and fitness.
"We also hold fundraising activities and we will shortly be doing a sponsored walk in which we will be raising money for Ashgate Hospice!"

Winner of the 'Good Neighbour' Award
Wendy, from Pilsley was nominated by her neighbour Diane, who said "Wendy has done lots for me and for others and has given so much of her time to this community. I love reading the 'Your Rykneld' magazine and keeping up-to-date with Rykneld Homes and when I saw the Community Spirit Awards I knew I had to nominate Wendy. Wendy deserves to win this award and have something back for her efforts."
Rykneld Homes Managing Director, Lorraine Shaw, presented Wendy with the Good Neighbour award and £150 in shopping vouchers along with flowers. Wendy said, "I was really shocked and amazed when I found out I had won! I couldn’t believe that someone thought so highly of me. The vouchers are just amazing and the flowers are beautiful, thank you so much. I’ll really have a deep think about what I want and treat myself to something special."
"I think community spirit isn’t how it used to be and is fading, but here in Pilsley we have a marvellous community and everyone looks out for each other. Children here wave and run over to me to say hello when I’m out and about. I’ve never made so many friends in my life as I have whilst living here. The whole village get involved in community events and it’s just a brilliant community."
