The Clay Cross Mental Health Carers Support Group was awarded £500 funding from our Neighbourhood Improvement Budget in order to help the group continue to support people in our community.
The group also asked for the help of the Rykneld Homes Communications Team who redesigned their leaflet for them in order to help them promote their group.

Judith Power, Chairlady of the group, said "We are one of the biggest Mental Health support groups now in the district with between 20-30 regular members. People come here and talk to each other in the group and share their similar experiences and get advice in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere."
"The group doesn’t just cover Clay Cross but also surrounding villages and we provide transport for people if they are unable to get here on their own. We put on events for the members such as trips out as well as craft work and fundraising nights, the members get to decide what they would like to do."
Bob Steer who also attends the group said, "This is an independent group that provides respite to people who don’t normally receive help. There is a buffet provided for the group and there are also professionals who attend the group meetings such as GPs and therapists. We put on 23 functions for the group last year."
"The funding that Rykneld Homes have provided us will help to put on more of these functions and trips out for the group, it’s a huge help."
Another group member added, "It’s great that organisations like Rykneld Homes exist and that they provide this type of funding and help for us."
The group meet on the first Wednesday of every month at the Clay Cross Social Centre between 10:30am – 1pm.
