Litter Picks and Spring Cleans
Our Community Involvement Team will be out and about across the district over the next few months supporting residents with local litter picks. We recently held litter picks in Danesmoor, Holmewood and Eckington. Thanks to everyone who helped.
Visit our Get Involved section to find out more.
Rykneld Homes will also be supporting local communities to hold a ‘spring clean’ and chuck out the clutter! We are providing skips at various locations over the summer months.
If you want to get out and about this summer, why not join one of the Council’s walking groups in our district.
North East Derbyshire District Council has relaunched the groups which are led by trained volunteers and are organised in line with Covid-19 safety guidance. Groups are currently running in Clay Cross, Dronfield, Eckington, Killamarsh and North Wingfield.
Jess Holmes, from the group, said: “We have found that individuals seem to feel more comfortable with outdoor activities now, so our walks are a wonderful way to get more active and to meet new people.
“None of the groups meet indoors. We recommend walkers bring a face mask as they can use the meeting venues for toilet access, but they do not need to wear a face mask while out walking.”
For more information contact Jess Holmes or Debbie Saint at the Council 01246 231111 or go to the Council’s website.
Need help to receive a COVID vaccine?
Derbyshire County Council’s Community Response Unit (CRU) is looking to help people who are struggling to get to a Covid-19 vaccination centre. It is signposting people to the 4 Active Travel Providers (formerly known as community transport) across the County. For anyone in financial hardship the cost of the journey will be met when using Active Travel, but the individual must have been ‘referred’ by the CRU directly to the Active Travel provider.
More information can be found on the Derbyshire County Council website.
Members of our Community Involvement Team were asked to deliver bike maintenance workshops in Clay Cross as part of an event organised by North East Derbyshire District Council. Families could bring along their bikes and let our staff give them the once over and look at fixing any problems.
We were very pleased to receive food donations from Morrisons supermarket at Halfway.
The donation helped to support the Holiday Hunger scheme in Eckington which makes food available to families facing financial hardship.
The scheme also receives support from Rykneld Homes and other local organisations.
