Buying Your Home

If you are a secure tenant and have held a tenancy (with North East Derbyshire District Council or any other public sector landlord) for more than three years, you will generally have the right to buy or acquire your home.

You will not qualify if you are an undischarged bankrupt or awaiting eviction.

Sheltered housing and some other properties suitable for elderly or disabled persons are exempt from Right to Buy – other exceptions include temporary or tied tenancies.

An Information Pack containing ‘Your Right to Buy Your Home’ booklet and an application form are available from the Rykneld Homes Home Ownership Officer or from the DirectGov website. You can also read the gov.uk Your Right to Buy Your Home: A Guide or the Guide to the Right to Acquire.

When we receive your completed form, we will check you qualify for Right to Buy or Right to Acquire and send you a formal notice advising you of the outcome. This will normally be within four weeks of receiving the application form unless we have to check tenancy details with other landlords.

Buying a Flat

Purchasing and owning a flat is different to purchasing a house – visit our Leaseholder section for more information.

For more information or to request an information pack, you can contact our Home Ownership Officer by completing our online form, calling 01246 217670 or sending an email to homeownership@rykneldhomes.org.uk.
