Neighbourhood Improvement Budget Funding - Killamarsh Conservation Group

We have awarded funding to Killamarsh Conservation Group through our Neighbourhood Improvement Budget to enable them to carry out a community litter pick as well as plant flower beds that residents can appreciate.

Killamarsh Conservation Group are a group of volunteers and residents from the Killamarsh area, their aim is to improve green spaces in the village. The group started in 2017 and has organised many litter picks in the area, as well as working with the local Infant and Nursery school and installing bird boxes in the closed cemetery.

The group carried out their own fundraising but required more funds to complete the flowerbeds and fill them with colourful plants for the residents and visitors of Killamarsh to enjoy – so they applied to the Rykneld Homes Neighbourhood Improvement Budget and were successfully awarded £500.

The two flowerbeds are now in place on Sheepcote Road and the group has now applied to install a third bed following the success of the first two.

We have previously awarded £465.53 Neighbourhood Improvement Budget funding to enable the group to purchase 30 litter pickers and 10 bag holders.

"The new litter pickers are very sturdy. Also, we will be able to give litter pickers to residents who will use them regularly around their homes and the neighbourhood. In the long term the whole village will benefit from this funding as more residents will take part in the litter picking activities we organise.

"We had lots of residents who expressed their support by joining the organised litter pick event. Also, there was a very positive response from the residents on social media - many residents acknowledged the clean public space.

"At the litter pick we had residents express their wish to join our group at the next organised litter pick.

"All of these activities increased the feeling of wellbeing and community spirit in the village."
