Council tenants from North East Derbyshire, Chesterfield and Bolsover came together for a day of collaboration, conversation and shared learning at the Annual Joint Tenant Event.

Organised jointly by Rykneld Homes, Chesterfield Borough Council and Bolsover District Council, the event gave tenants from the three neighbouring areas a valuable opportunity to share their experiences and help shape the future of council housing services.

A series of interactive workshops encouraged lively discussion on a range of topics. Tenants exchanged ideas and explored practical ways for all three landlords to become more visible, accessible and connected to their communities.

Tenants were clear that visibility is about more than seeing housing staff on estates. It means having approachable teams that listen, help resolve issues, build trust and reach people who may not usually engage with housing services.

Clear and consistent communication was another theme with tenants highlighting the importance of knowing who their Housing Officers are, how to contact them and what support is available.

Niall Clark, Managing Director of Rykneld Homes, said: “It was fantastic to see tenants from across the three areas sharing their knowledge, ideas and enthusiasm. Their insight is invaluable and will help us build services that are more visible, responsive and closely connected to the communities we serve. By working together and listening to each other, we can turn these conversations into positive, practical improvements for tenants.”

The ideas generated during the day will be captured in a shared report and action plan, ensuring tenants’ contributions lead to meaningful next steps and improvements.
